The Islamic Republic of Iran Taekwondo Federation has announced the incorporation of Vahid Abdollahi to their senior coaching staff.
The main objective of Abdollahi will be to help his country achieve a great result in this year’s biggest competition on the WT official calendar, which will be the WT World Championships 2019, to be held between May 15-19 in Manchester, United Kingdom.
The appointment of Abdollahi follows the recommendation of the current head coach of the Senior team, Fariborz Askari.
Abdollahi will take care of the training of the best Senior athletes in the country after winning the best coach award at last year’s World Junior Championships in Hammamet in Tunisia, where the Iranian Men’s team led by him collected 7 gold medals and 2 bronzes to reign on top of the medal count.
It must be stressed that Iran did not grab any medal at the last edition of the Olympic Games (Rio 2016), which makes Mohammad Bagheri Motamed’s silver at London 2012 the last achievement in the biggest sports event around the world.
In the last edition of the Kyorugi World Championships, which took place in Muju, Korea, in June 2017, Iran collected a total of two silver medals (Hadipour and Hosseini) and 1 bronze, won by Hajizavareh.
Manchester 2019 World Championships could be the turning point for one of the most prominent nations in our sport. The addition of Abdollahi to the Senior coaching staff could be the key to do so.
Only time will tell if this maneuver will be a success.
