The organization of the Manchester 2019 World Taekwondo Championships has announced the schedule for the event as the countdown for the kick-off of the competition has been reduced to only 120 days (15-19 May 2019).
The competiton format will be similar to the one used in Chelyabinsk 2015 and Muju 2017, with each category of weight completing its draw until the semifinals and the gold medal matches awaiting for the day after.
The objective of this competition format is to offer the fans two different opportunities to support their favourite athletes.
The only day of competition which will differ from that policy will be the last one with Taekwondo action, Sunday May 19th, when a total of seven finals will be held at Manchester Arena.
A total of seven rings will be available for the fights at the beginning of the draw so that all the crowded divisions can be completed in five days in the British city.
When it comes to the semifinals and the gold medal matches, they will all be played on a special court with magnificent view from all seats in the building.
The main hopes of the local crowd will be the two-time defending champion Bianca Walkden (Women’s +73 kg) and the double Olympic champion Jade Jones (Women’s -57 kg), who will try to take advantage of the support from their compatriots to add another title to their collection of medals.
Walkden will begin her journey to gold on May 16th, while Jones will be in action from the day after.
