44 Olympic Competitors Fighting in Spanish Open 2012
The 10th edition of the Spanish International Taekwondo Open will take place in the city of Alicante on the weekend of March 24-25. This event, which has a WTF G-2 ranking, will be hosted at the ‘Pabellón Centro de Tecnificación de Alicante’ and will receive 1200 competitors from 190 teams coming from 45 countries.
The Spanish Open will be another sneak preview for the Olympics – roughly 5 months away – with 44 London 2012 competitors fighting for ranking points. The G-2 ranking points are used for seeding in the Olympics as well as in world and continental championships.
The Spanish athletes Brigitte Yagüe, Nicolás García and Joel González are 3 of the 44 participants who will be competing in London 2012, although they were not present in the recent open competitions in Germany and the Netherlands.
The competition will count with the video replay system and the most updated software version of the Daedo PSS, the same version that will be used in the London 2012 Olympic Games.
On Saturday the 24th, parallel to the Open, the Spanish Poomsae Championship will take place in the same center, with 250 athletes from all over the country competing in taekwondo technique.
