African Qualification for London Olympic starts in Cairo Egypt

The African Qualification Tournament for London 2012 Olympic Games will take place in Cairo, Egypt, on January 11th-12th.

16 places for the Olympic Games are at stake at this Qualification Tournament. All 4 Olympic weight categories for both men and women will be competing and the ticket for the Games will be given to the 1st and 2nd winners of each category. There will be a total of 83 participants from 30 countries.

The total number of international referees participating at this Qualification Tournament is 23 (excluding African IR): 12 from Europe, 3 from Asia, 4 from Oceania and 4 from Pan America.

While the referee’s training took place on both 9th and 10th of January, the Head of Team meeting and draw was finalized on the 9th at the Sonesta Hotel in Cairo.

The African Qualification Tournament was to be held in Port Said, but the location was recently changed to Cairo.

Despite the latest happenings due to the political situation in Egypt, downtown Cairo seems to show a normal everyday life.
