Croatia dominates in Serbia Open

The Croatian National Team displayed a magnificent performance in the 11th edition of the Galeb Belgrade Trophy Serbia Open taking a total of 6 gold medals in the Senior categories. Croatian fighters led the final Senior standings with 113 points after showing a really high Taekwondo level during the two days of the event, which took place last weekend in the Pionir Arena of the Serbian Capital. ABC Club from Braga (Portugal) reached the second step of the final podium with 26 points and Club Azija from Serbia took the third place with only one point less, 25.
Mateja Kunovic in the Women’s -46 kg categoy, Ana Pavlovic in -49 kg, Jelena Ivancic in -53 kg, Martina Zubcic in -57 kg and Tihana Zivkovic in -73 kg, were the Female members of the Croatian National Team awarded with the gold medals. In the Men’s modalities, the Croatian heroe and only gold medalist was Lovre Brecic, who defeated the Iraqi Mustafa Ahmed Adel in the under 54 kg final. Each of their golds gave Croatia 7 points for the standings which were added to the points collected for them after every match they won during the Torunament (1 point for every win).

Action during a combat in the Serbia Open


The second triumphant of the event was the ABC Club from Portugal, who took profit of Rui Braganca, Nuno Costa and José Fernandes’ medals to win the race for the second step of the final podium against the Serbian Club Azija. Braganca beat the Croatian Stipe Jarloni in the under 58 kg’s final and Costa got rid of Ninoslav Babic from Serbia in the under 63 kg’s crucial match, while José Fernandes managed to take a bronze in Male’s under 68 kg, won by the Bulgarian Vladimir Dalakliev.
Club Azija’s points came from the silver medal of Violeta Babic in the Female’s over 73 kg modality, Viktor Milovanovic, who won the Men’s under 74 kg category gold over the Croatian Toni Kanaet, and Dorde Marcetic, finalist of the under 87 kg draw, won by the German Dionys Kronreif.

A total of 828 competitors from 30 countries participated in this 11th edition of the Serbia Open, which used Daedo’s PSS to help the referees decide the final scores of the combats played in the 8 arenas available at the Pironi Arena.
