Day 2 – Report

Korea proved to be the strongest team at Fujairah 2018 World Taekwondo Grand Prix after clinching 4 out of the 8 titles decided on Friday. Turkey, Norway, China and Russia were the other nations to taste gold in the event with 1 title each.

The Korean champions who lifted their country to the top of the medal count were: Dae-hoon Lee, who proved to be the biggest dominator of the Taekwondo scene nowadays after adding another gold to his large collection of medals after smashing his compatriot Kim by 65-20 in a match that had no mistery; Ah-reum Lee, who became the Women’s -57 gold medallist after defeating Glasnovic from Croatia by 11-7 in the last match of the draw; Jun Jang, who climbed to the top of the Men’s -58 kg podium after beating one of the best athletes in the division, Jesus Tortosa from Spain, by a clear 21-12; and another Taekwondo superstar, So-hui Kim, who tasted gold yet another time in her career after outscoring another big player of the category, Pannipak Wongpattanakit from Thailand, by a close 10-8 in the crucial clash.

Day 1 – Report

Korea managed to place a total of 7 athletes in the 8 Finals after the first day of competition was completed at Fujairah 2018 Grand Prix Final, which was held today at Zayed Sports Complex. Russia was the other nation to put more than 1 fighter in a Final with a total of 2 competitors. Thailand, Croatia, Turkey, China, Great Britain, Spain and Norway reached a Final in one occasion each.

In terms of medals, Korea stands out with a total of 8 possible prizes, with Turkey as the second most successful country with 4 players with medal chances. Croatia follows these two teams with 3, while China, Spain and Russia could place 2 fighters in the awarding ceremonies. To complete all the possible medallists so far, Thailand, Great Britain, Serbia, Italy, Chinese Taipei, Uzbekistan, Noway, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan and Iran have all managed to opt to 1 medal in the event.

The 8 Draws completed their Round of 16, Quarterfinals and Semifinals on Thursday, with the 8 bronze medal matches and Finals awaiting for Friday.
