Great success of the 7th UNOSDP Youth Leadership Program

The taekwondo session at the 7th United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) Youth Leadership Program (YLP), which was held on 1 September2013 at Honam University in Gwangju, Korea, was a resounding success according to Professor Jung-heon Kim of Yongin University in Korea.
The taekwondo event was part of the 13-day UNOSDP Youth Leadership Program, which ran from 22 August until 3 September. Co-hosted by the 2015 Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee and the UNOSDP, the program drew a total of 34 athletes and para-athletes, aged between 18 and 25. Participants from 19 countries in the Asia-Oceania region including North Korea, Tonga and Vanuatu travelled to Korea to attend the event where they received theoretical and practical training.

The highlight for me was the board-breaking event, in which the participants wrote their bad habits or their wishes on their respective boards and broke them after explaining them to the other participants.”.
The concept of the UNOSDP Youth Leadership Program is to support young people around the world by providing them with opportunities to engage in sport as a means of contributing to development of the society.
The 2015 Gwangju Universiade Organizing Committee plans to host the same program in 2014 and 2015.
