Hong, new Director of Kukkiwon's board
Moon-Jong Hong, Secretary General of Korea’s governing party (Saenuri) and one of the candidates of the WTF Presidential elections, has been appointed new Director of Kukkiwon’s board in the elections held today at the Headquarters of the organization, located in Seoul.
Hong has been officially designated after receiving 7 votes in favor an 5 against in the final round, beating his biggest opponent, Sinja Lim, who has finally accumulated 5 supports and 6 contrary votes.
Among the list of proposals that have lifted Hong to the top of one of the most important institutions of Taekwondo worldwide, we can highlight the following:
– Rising Kukkiwon’s budget from 14,000 million KRW (12.4 million USD) to 35,000 million KRW (31 million USD).
– Decide who the new Chairman and new officials will be without causing controversy.
Once elected new Director, Hong has appeared at Kukkiwon’s Headquarters to pronounce his first words in charge:
“I don’t know what to say. I am not the perfect person for the job, and being the new Director of the board means a big responsibility. I like Taekwondo and I am really interested in its future, but I don’t know much about that sport yet. However, I’ll soon become an athlete to act as part of it, striving to establish Kukkiwon as the ‘Mecca’ of Taekwondo worldwide”.
Regarding the upcoming WTF Presidential elections, which will take place next month in Puebla (Mexico), Hong commented: “I’ll speak with Dr Choue to avoid a collision between Koreans in the elections. To be honest, it is not easy to travel around the world as the Secretary General of the Saenuri party”. However, Hong did not confirm if he is finally going to retire from WTF Presidential race.
