Female’s -46kg

*PARTICIPATION: 20 Athletes
*EUROPEAN WINNERS MONTREUX 2016: 1st place: Iryna Romoldanova (UKR),2nd place: Blanca Palmer Soler (ESP) and 3rd places: Hajer Mustapha (FRA) & Rukiye Yildirim (TUR).
*HIGHEST POSITION IN WORLD RANKING: Iryna Romoldanova (UKR) – No2
*QUALIFIED FROM WT PRESIDENT’S CUP 2018: Kyriaki Kouttouki (CYP), Akalin Ruhat (TUR), Iloglu Sumeyye (TUR)
*WHAT WE WILL SEE: The three out of four European medallists Montreux 2016, World’s No2 and European Champion Iryna Romoldanova (UKR), Hajer Mustapha of France & Worlds No8 Rukiye Yildirim (TUR) will participate in the relevant category in Kazan. The silver in Montreux 2016 Blanca Palmer Soler switched category and thus the medals classification in the -46kg division it is expecting to have upsets since the No3 in the World Ranking Kyriaki Kouttouki of Cyprus misses a European title from her career and she will now have the chance to claim a medal in Kazan.
The top player participating in the category, Iryna Romoldanova, will fight in a defending title mode and thus she will have the chance to lead the World Ranking list.
Female’s -49kg

*PARTICIPATION: 18 Athletes
*EUROPEAN WINNERS MONTREUX 2016: 1st place: Tijana Bogdanovic (SRB), 2nd place: Ana Petrusic (RUS) and 3rd places: Alexandra Lychagina (RUS) & Lucija Zninovic (CRO).
*HIGHEST POSITION IN WORLD RANKING: Tijana Bogdanovic (SRB) – No3
*QUALIFIED FROM WT PRESIDENT’S CUP 2018: Dincel Merve (TUR), Tomic Kristina (CRO), Antipenko Natalia (RUS)
*WHAT WE WILL SEE: The category’s highest ranked athlete and silver Olympic medallist, Tijana Bogdanovic of Serbia will participate in different division, but Blanca Palmer Soler of Spain will claim one more European medal in this category for first time among with Kristina Tomic World’s No4 and two World Champions Zeliha Agris (TUR) and Vanja Stankovic (SRB).
Highlight participation in the category is the bronze Olympic medallist Rio 2016, Patimat Abakarova. After her second place in Montreux 2016 and bronze in Baku 2014, the Azerbaijani representative will fight for the gold missing from her collection.
Male’s -54kg

*PARTICIPATION: 21 Athletes
*EUROPEAN WINNERS MONTREUX 2016: 1st place: Mourad Laachraoui (BEL), 2nd place: Jesus Tortosa Cabrera (ESP) and 3rd places: Stanislav Denisov (RUS) & Mikhail Artamonov (RUS)
*HIGHEST POSITION IN WORLD RANKING: Mourad Laachraoui (BEL) – No8
*QUALIFIED FROM WT PRESIDENT’S CUP 2018: Gagiev Magomed (RUS), Dell’ Aquila Vito (ITA), Vicente Yunta Adrian (ESP) and Dimitrov Vadim (MDA).
*WHAT WE WILL SEE: Due to the differentiation that came over this year for the relevant category, the winners’ podium of 2018 will welcome new athletes. The young promising athlete from Italy Dell’ Aquila Vito and World’s No9 comes to the Europeans with the major goal a medal. After his silver one in WT President’s Cup two weeks earlier, by realizing great performances he proved that he can own the favorite title.
Males -58kg

*PARTICIPATION: 28 Athletes
*EUROPEAN WINNERS MONTREUX 2016: 1st place: Rui Braganca (POR), 2nd place: Ron Atias (Israel) and 3rd places: Feyi Pearce (GBR) & Ruslan Poiseev (RUS)
*HIGHEST POSITION IN WORLD RANKING: Jesus Tortosa Cabrera (ESP)– No4
*QUALIFIED FROM WT PRESIDENT’S CUP 2018: Uscov Serghei (MDA), Shimanov Valeriy (RUS) and Glasnovic Leon (CRO)
*WHAT WE WILL SEE: He is highly experienced in winning European Championships since herealised it twice, the double European Champion, 2014 & 2016, Rui Braganca of Portugal will be present in Kazan to defend his titles and repeat his success for the third time in a row. Although, the road won’t be easy. The -58kg category indicates, among others, participation as the silver European medallist Jesus Tortosa Cabrera and highest ranked athlete of the relevant category, will claim his first European gold medal.
Fighting for the 2018 European title, World’s No5 and bronze medallist in Montreux 2016, Mihail Artamonov of Russia will give also his dynamic present in the mat and it is expecting the relevant category final match to fascinate the taekwondo public.
