Kyung-Seon Hwang??s 3rd Olympic Participation in a Row Confirmed

Beijing 2008 gold medalist Kyung-Seon Hwang’s participation in London 2012 is confirmed.

Kyung-Seon Hwang confirmed her spot in the South Korean National Team for the London 2012 Olympic Games on March 16th at the 2nd Selection Tournament for the National Team. She won in the women’s -67kg category after beating Mi-Kyung Kim 6-1. Hwang had also won against Kim in the 1st Selection Tournament, and with this victory she earned the opportunity to attempt a second gold at theOlympic Games.

This will be the third time for Hwang to participate in the Olympics, after Athens 2004, where she got a bronze medal and Beijing 2008, where she won a gold medal.

Another Beijing 2008 gold medalist, Dong-Min Cha (men’s +80kg) also confirmed his spot in the National Team in the 2nd Selection Tournament. He won 4-3 against Sang-Bin Lee and got his chance to go for another gold with his high school and university colleague Hwang. 

In the men’s -58kg, Dae-Hoon Lee, who won in the 1st Selection Tournament, lost 1-2 this time against Kil-Su Lee and will have to go to the 3rd selection round at the end of this month. 

In the women’s +67kg, In-Jeong Lee won 1-0 against Sae-Bom Ahn – winner of the 1st SelectionTournament. The spot will be disputed in the 3rd round too.
