London 2012 Host Has a Dilemma on Taekwondo?
Great Britain, the host of the London 2012 Olympic Games is having a ‘nice’ dilemma.
Gary Hall, GB Taekwondo’s Performance Director, confessed recently in an interview with the media that GB Taekwondo is facing problems deciding which athletes should fight at the Olympics.
The European Championships that will take place in Manchester in May will be helpful to decide which athletes should be selected.
Gary Hall explained that “There are some big names in the European Championships and we have all our major fighters who are likely to be considered for Olympics selection in Manchester”.
Great Britan will be participating in London in male -68kg, -80kg, and female -57kg and -67kg categories.
Sarah Stevenson (-67kg), one of the athletes who is raising most expectations is currently under recovery from her knee injury. Bianca Walkden might be Stevenson’s replacement in case her participation becomes complicated.
As for the male -80kg category, Aaron Cook has now Damon Sansum as his rival, after the latter beat him and won at the recent German Open.
According to Gary Hall, this is a ‘nice problem to have’, which will probably be clarified in May at latest.
