Man-Soon Jung, elected new President of Kukkiwon

On February 6th, Mr. Man-Soon Jung was appointed new President of Kukkiwon at the ‘2014 First Extraordinary Board Meeting’ held in a lecture room at Kukkiwon offices.
The fifteen board members who attended the meeting voted unanimously for Jung, who had been acting President of the organization since January 6th, after the resignation of Lee Kyu Hyung on December 31st 2013.
Newly elected President Jung, who was born in 1945, has served for decades at the Chungju Universty as a physical education professor and also as Dean of the college of education. In the world of sports, he has been Technical Chief at the Asia Taekwondo Union, Director of operations at the Korean Taekwondo Association, coach of the Korean National Team at the 1977 World Taekwondo Championships, head coach of the Korean National Team at the 5th World University Taekwondo Championships, head of the Korean National Team at the 2011 Gyungju World Taekwondo Championships, etc., and is currently serving as President of the Choong-Buk Taekwondo Association.
Mr. Jung said “I am thankful for the unanimous decision to appoint me as the new President”, and added that “the Kukkiwon’s status has fallen. If all the managers and employees make an effort, it will be possible to normalize the status of the organization. Although I am burdened by this great responsibility, I will do my best.”
Other items discussed and voted for approval during the extraordinary board meeting were the business results and settlement of accounts of 2013, the business plans and budget for 2014, and the relocation of the WTA.
