Spain grabs 3rd gold to lead the medal count, France wins first title
The Spaniard Daniel Quesada is the new Mediterranean champion of the Men’s -68 kg category after beating the Italian Claudio Treviso by 6-2 in the big final, played today at Edip Buran Sports Centre. With his title, Quesada lifts Spain to the top of the Mersin 2013 medal count with 3 golds and 2 bronzes. Quesada defeated the local idol Servet Tazegul, Olympic champion at London 2012, in the semi-final (12-7). The other bronze medal was awarded to the French Alexandre Amghar, who lost to Treviso in the other semi by 10-3.
In the other final of the closing day, the French Maeva Mellier got rid of the current Olympic champion of the division, the Serbian Milica Mandic, against all odds, taking the title thanks to a sudden death point (3-2). The bronze medallists of the category were the local Yaprak Eris and Rosana Simón from Spain.
