Day 2 – Report
Local athletes grabbed 2 more titles on the second day of action at Pan Am Open 2016 after Briseida Acosta and Saul Gutierrez respectively proved to be the strongest fighters in Women’s +73 and Men’s -68 kg. With theses 2 new gold medals, Mexico clinched a total of 6 titles in the event. Canada won its third gold on Saturday to finish second, while USA managed to add a second gold to its collection in Queretaro thanks to Ara White’s triumph in Women’s -57 kg. Colombia, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Cuba were the other nations to climb to the top of the podium on Saturday.

Day 1 – Report
Mexico took 4 out of 8 titles after the first day of action was completed at Pan Am Open 2016, which kicked off yesterday in the city of Queretaro. Canada was the other nation to clinch more than 1 gold with a total of 2, while USA and Chile grabbed 1 title each to complete the first 8 divisions in competition.
The local athletes to shine on Friday were Brenda Costa Rica, who proved to be the strongest athlete in Women’s -46 kg after beating Oliveira from Brazil in the crucial fight of the draw; Maria Espinoza, who defeated another Brazilian representative in the Women’s -73 kg final to clinch another title for her country; Cesar Rodriguez, who climbed to the top of the Men’s -54 kg podium after getting rid of yet another Brazilian athlete, Paulo Melo; and Damian Villa, who edged his team mate Salvador Alvarez in the Men’s -63 kg final clash to taste glory in Queretaro.
