Day 2 – Report
Mexico grabbed 2 more gold medals on Thursday to rocket to a total of 7 titles at Queretaro 2016 Pan Am Senior Champs, which wrapped up yesterday with the local team on top of the medal count. USA and Venezuela clinched their second title in the event on Thursday, while Cuba, Dominican Republic, Argentina and Brazil took their first gold on the last day of action.
The golden athletes for Mexico on Thursday were no others than Cesar Rodriguez, who climbed to the top of the Men’s -54 kg podium after beating De la Vega from Chile by 12-6 in the big final of the division and Abel Mendoza, who reigned in Men’s -63 kg after getting rid of Lucas Guzman from Argentina in a very close gold medal fight by 4-3.

Mexico clearly dominated the first day of action at Pan Am Senior Championships 2016, which kicked off yesterday in the Mexican city of Queretaro, after clinching no less than 5 of the 8 titles awarded on Wednesday. The other 3 gold medals were taken by Colombia, USA and Venezuela.
The local heroes of the day were Paulina Almeria, who reigned in Women’s -57 kg after comfortably beating Andujar from Dominican Republic in the final by 16-3; Maria Espinoza, who shone in Women’s -73 kg over the rest of contendants after defeating Brazilian Galacho in the gold medal match by a clear 10-4; Carlos Navarro, who climbed to the top of the Men’s -58 kg podium after getting rid of Colombian Oscar Muñoz in the crucial fight by a close 12-11; Ruben Nava, who proved to be the strongest athlete in the Men’s -68 kg draw after edging Pontes from Brazil in the gold medal match by 4-3; and Miguel Radillo, who dominated the Men’s -74 kg division after outscoring American Rahimi in the last match of the draw by 5-3.
