Seniors – Report
Ukraine proved to be the strongest team at the 2019 edition of the Riga Open, which was held last weekend in the Latvian capital, after clinching a total of 4 titles in the Senior category of the competition.
Russia and Spain were the other two countries to taste glory in Riga after grabbing 2 gold medals each, while Hungary, Sweden, Slovenia, Italy, Germany, Israel and Denmark collected 1 title each to complete the 15 Senior classes in competition.
The 4 Ukrainian fighters to win gold in Riga were: Vasyl Kotyash, who proved to be the strongest competitor in Men’s -54 kg after smashing Belkadi from Netherlands by 34-6 in the gold medal match of the draw;
Oleksandr Dziub, who struggled to defeat Saarinen from Finland in the Men’s -63 kg crucial fight by 11-9 to grab the gold medal of the division; Vladyslav Yerko, who stepped on top of the Men’s -74 kg podium after Halizin from Belarus couldn’t compete in the final round of the draw; Mykhailo Sheles, who comfortably edged Zadra from Italy by a clear 40-3 to reign in Men’s +87 kg.
