The 1st Mount Everest Taekwondo Championships to be held.
A Taekwondo Competition is to be held under the title of the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest.
Co-organized by both the Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA) and the International Nepalese Taekwondo Association (INTA), the 1st Mount Everest International Taekwondo Championships will be held in Kathmandu National Sports Council Covered Hall for two days, from the 22nd to the 23rd of September.
Mr. Dip Raj Gurung, the Secretary General of the NTA commented in an interview with the press that “More than 300 competitors from over 18 countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan and the Maldives, will participate in this competition.”
Secretary General, Gurung also mentioned “We are expecting that unconfirmed competitors from other Asian, European and American countries will also participate”
The competition will consist of 8 weight categories for men and 6 categories for women, making a total of 14 Gold Medals to be awarded.
It is the first time after the 8th South Asian Games in 1998 that Nepal is hosting an international competition.
