Turkey??s Tazegul wins a ticket to London

Servet Servet Tazegul (Turkey, Male -68kg) won the gold medal on July 1st, the second day of the WTF World Qualification Tournament for the 2012 London Olympic Games at the Sarhdachi Olympic Center.

Servet Tazegul, considered as a rising star after his aggressive and splendid performance at the 2011 World Taekwondo Championships in Gyeongju, was able to convincingly meet everyone’s expectations.

Overwhelming all his opponents, Tazegul swept them away with stunning results: 17-5, 9-3, win by KO, 13-1, etc. In the final match he met the same opponent as in the 2011 World Taekwondo Championships, Mohammad Bagheri Motamed (Iran).

The final match was worthy to be considered as a preview of an Olympic Games final, in which both athletes showed the very best of Taekwondo. The tension could be felt from the very beginning of the match, which attracted a great deal of interest and cheering. Turkish and Azeri people vigorously cheered for Tazegul, whereas fans from Iran incessantly shouted their country’s name. Finally, Bagheri lost against Tazegul 6-4 and gave away the WTF ranking first place to his opponent. At the end of the match, Tazegul sincerely thanked the Azeri for their warm cheering by waving the Azerbaijan national flag.

The final results for male -68kg were as follows:

1) Servet Tazegul (TUR)

2) Mohammad Bagheri Motamed (IRI)

3) Diogo Silva (BRA)
