Turkish Open 2020 (G-1): Local players shine in Cadets with 12 golds
Local fighters did also dominate the Senior and Junior categories with 6 and 9 gold medals on Monday and Tuesday

Turkish fighters set the standard at the 2020 edition of the Turkish International Taekwondo Open, which kicked off today in Istanbul with the 16 Senior divisions in competition, after winning 6 gold medals to reach the top of the medal count.
Azerbaijan, with 3 titles, and Iran, with 2, were the other 2 nations who managed to step on top of the podium more than once, while Cuba, USA, Uzbekistan, France and Slovenia grabbed 1 gold each.
The six Turkish champions of Monday’s action were: Ikra Kayir, who reigned in Women’s -62 kg after beating Tvaronaviciute from Lithuania in the big final; Ruhat Akalin, who proved to be the strongest competitor in Women’s -46 kg after defeating her compatriot Gogebakan in the gold medal match; Kutay Cekem, champion of the Men’s -74 kg class after getting rid of another local fighter, Emin Yildiz, in the last fight of the draw; Emircan Turan, who climbed to the top of the Men’s -63 kg category after outscoring Serikbayev from Kazakhstan; Deniz Dagdelen, who shone above the rest of contestants in Men’s -58 kg after edging Malchenko from Ukraine in the final match of the division; and Gorkem Polat, the Men’s -54 kg gold medallist after beating Bedart from France for the gold in front of the local crowd.
