World Taekwondo and ITF keep strengthening ties

World Taekwondo (former WTF) and the International Taekwondo Federation made a step forward in their approach after the ITF Demonstration Team performed during the Muju 2017 World Taekwondo Championships opening ceremony.
After signing a historical MoU in Nanjing, China, back in 2014, both Federations have been trying to collaborate and respect each other by allowing athletes registered to the WTF and ITF to be free to compete in one and the other’s competitions under the rules of each organization, with the aim to create new exciting opportunities and ensure that the world’s very best taekwondo athletes can compete in the world’s very best taekwondo tournaments.
The opening ceremony at Taekwondowon was attended by Korea’s President Jae-in Moon, who posed for a fraternal photo with the ITF delegation, mostly made of North Koreans, including President Ri Yong Son, in yet another historical moment.

The alarm jumped today in Muju when World Taekwondo announced that the joint press conference between WT and the ITF had been cancelled, but President Chungwon Choue declared it was due to the late arrival of the North Korean expedition. President Choue also stated that he is hoping for the ITF to invite the WT Demo Team for the opening ceremony at ITF World Championships next September in Pyongyang, North Korea.
