World Taekwondo Hanmadang 2013 kicks off in Daejeon

The World Taekwondo Hanmadang 2013, organized by Kukkiwon and the city of Daejeon, was inaugurated last Wednesday Augsut 28th in the Korean city.
This year’s event will last until tomorrow Saturday August 31st at the Chungmu Sports Centre of Daejeon, where 32,000 people from 46 different countries will get together to enjoy the best Taekwondo from all around the world during 4 consecutive days.
The World Taekwondo Hanmadang 2013 was officially inaugurated last Wednesday at 4 pm local time with an opening ceremony that was followed live by 5,000 attendees, including highlighted Taekwondo personalities such as Lee Kyu Hyeng, President of Kukkiwon, Lee Sung Hwan, former President of the organization, Cho Young Ki, Vice-President of the KTA, and other higher-ups within the Daejeon City Council and the Taekwondo and Sports World in general.
The current Director of the Kukkiwon board, Hong Mun Jong, could not attend the event personally, so he was replaced by the acting Director, Lee Kyu Hyeng, who was the chosen person to give the opening speech, in which he highlighted the city of Daejeon as one of the most recognized cities of Korea in terms of arts and culture. Lee also made it clear that his wish is to turn the World Taekwondo Hanmadang into one of our sport’s major festivals, an event where the Taekwondo family worldwide can get together to enjoy the extraordinary beauty and spectacle of this martial art. An objective which is still far away to be reached, but with everyone’s interest and cooperation, nothing is impossible.
The mayor of Daejeon did also take part in the ceremony through a video statement, which was followed by the appearance of other political personalities of the country, who did also want to wish the best to this important event.
