World Taekwondo launches ‘Kicking It At Home’ campaign
World Taekwondo launched its “Kicking It At Home” campaign to encourage people to stay inside during the coronavirus pandemic.
The online campaign shows how athletes are coping with restrictive measures put in place due to the pandemic, which has now infected more than 1.2 million people and killed more than 70,000.
Available to view on Youtube, the first video of the campaign features Para-taekwondo athletes.
This includes Gamze Gurdal of Turkey, Peru’s Angelica Espinoza, Bopha Kong of France, Lisa Gjessing of Denmark, Mexican Juan Diego Garcia Lopez, Veena Arora of India, Brazil’s Nathan Torquato, Alejandro Vidal Alvarez of Spain and Italy’s Antonio Bossolo.
Further videos have shown athletes from all around the world training at home, including Egypt’s Olympic bronze medallist Hedaya Malak and African champion Abdelrahman Wael.
Another video shows Iranian children and adults practicing in their homes.
World Taekwondo has had to cancel or postpone a number of international and continental events due to coronavirus.
The World Taekwondo Championships in Chinese city Wuxi have also been impacted following the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games to July 23 to August 8 in 2021.
Competition is now set to be pushed back from May to the fourth quarter of the year, after the Games have taken place.
