WTF unveils new Seoul office and earns IPC member status
The WTF celebrated the moving of its Seoul headquarters in a ceremony on June 22, 2015.
The event, which took place at the new WTF premises in downtown Seoul, just near Seoul’s landmark medieval palace, Gyeongbokgung, drew dignitaries from all walks of life. The new address of the WTF Seoul headquarters is 5th Fl. Kolon Bld., 15 Hyoja-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Korea.
Among the VIPs in attendance at the ceremony were Korean Culture, Sports and Tourism Vice Minister Chong Kim, Michelle Idiaquez, Honduran ambassador to Korea; Joong-keun Lee, chairman of Booyoung Group; and Dae-soon Lee, honorary vice president of the WTF.
The WTF has earned a provisional member status from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
In a June 11 letter to WTF President Chungwon Choue, the IPC said, “We have the pleasure to inform you that the IPC Governing Board has approved your application for membership to the IPC.” “Hereby we confirm that the WTF has been granted the status of provisional member of the IPC,” it said.
In accordance with the IPC Constitution, full membership requires the approval of the IPC General Assembly.
“Your application for full membership will be considered by the 2015 IPC General Assembly in November,” the letter said. The 2015 IPC General Assembly is scheduled to take place in Mexico City on November 15, 2015.
Taekwondo became an official sport of the 2020 Paralympic Games in January this year.
