The current Olympic champion and 2 times world queen, So-hui Kim became the Women athlete of the day awarded with the 70,000 USD after managing to beat Vanja Stankovic from Serbia in the big final of the draw by a clear 6-0. The Asian fighter couldn’t score in the first round of the match, but started to find some cracks on the Serbian’s defensive wall on the second after two quick left kicks ended up being successful (4-0). In the last two minutes of the clash, Kim took advantage of a mistake from the European to score two more points with her right leg and make her way to the gold medal.
The lower step of the podium was taken by the local idol, Yuntao Wenren, who edged Kiyanichendeh from Iran by 14-9 in a close fight for the repechage’s best.
In, on the other hand, struggled as we had never seen before in the Grand Slam Series to taste glory in Wuxi. The Korean representative had to wait until the fifth round of the final match against Roman Kuznetsov from Russia to clich the top of the podium and the 70,000 USD check. The fight had been so levelled throughout the first 10 minutes, with no fighter being able to score a single point during all that time. In the end, when everything seemed to be settled for another 0-0 round, when only 4 seconds were still remaining in the fifth period, In launched an extremely fast left kick which found the right part of the trunk of Kuznetsov and grab the second title of the day for Korea.
The bronze medal of the Men’s +80 kg was awarded to Sajjad Mardani from Iran, who defeated Golec from Croatia by 9-4 in the repechage final.
