USA dominated the 10th edition of the Costa Rica Open after tasting gold in 5 out of the 16 Senior categories in competition, collecting 1 more title than Brazil (4). The American athletes also grabbed 5 silvers and 6 bronzes, which certified an extraordinary performance by the team. Brazil had to conent with the second place in the medal count after collecting 2 silvers and 2 bronzes.
The other country to climb to the top of the podium in more than one occasion was Dominican Republic, who clinched 2 titles in San Jose last weekend. The remaining 5 golds were awarded to Peru, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Canada.
USA made it to the top of the standings thanks to 5 of its fighters: Carissa Fu, who proved herself as the strongest athlete in Women’s -49 kg after defeating her compatriot Towns in the final; Paige McPherson, who was the best competitor in Women’s -67 kg after getting rid of Pagnotta from Canada for the gold; Logan Gerick, who climbed to the top of the Men’s -58 kg podium after edging his team mate How in the crucial fight; Thomas Rahimi, who shone over the rest in Men’s -74 kg after beating Moura from Brazil in the last fight of the draw; and Stephen Lambdin, who was better than Martin Sio from Argentina in the Men’s -87 kg final clash.
